Cream paper covered boards with buff colour cloth spine, title in black on front cover and spine, and Josef Herman illustration in black to front cover. Condition: Very good, with general light foxing to edges of covers. Light browning to endpapers. Binding sound, no inscriptions. Dustjacket condition: Fair, generally shelfworn and lightly soiled with sunning to spine and two 1.5 inch repaired tears to front cover. 13pp. text and 40 b/w plates. Scarce. Josef Herman (1911-2000) had one theme in his work, in both drawings and paintings: Man as Labourer and the surroundings of his working life, his home, family and landscape. A war emigre from Warsaw, he settled in Wales for ten years from 1944 before living in Scotland, Israel, Burgundy and London. The importance of his work was quickly recognised by art critics of the 1940's and 50's. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
